RECREATION The Recreation Department welcomes volunteers to assist the Recreation Director with the various programs throughout the year for children and adults. Recreation Summer Schedule
July
Barry Lakes 2010 Summer Recreation Program We will start our Barry Lakes 2010 Summer Program at the Beach and will kick it off with a summer craft and game Tuesday July 6. Activities will take place at the beach house Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:00p.m. Check the beach house board for more info.
Swimming lessons start July 7, Wednesday If you haven't done so, stop at the beach and sign up for lessons.
7/14 lesson will be made up on July 20, same times.
Swim lessons are also cancelled July 23 and make up will take place on August 2. This will be the last class of the season, so you don't want to miss it.
S'mores night July 16, Friday at 7:00p.m. We supply the marshmallows, chocolate and Graham crackers, you supply the sticks.
Ceramic Classes: Thursdays — July 8 through August 26 (No Classes August 19) There is a minimum of 3 people and maximum 8 people per class. Please notify (call or email) the clubhouse regarding which classes you will be attending. Classes are $10 per person, per day, and may be paid on a per diem basis. Fees includes: the firing fee, up to a half pound of clay, glaze materials, and the use of tools. Class Schedule Children 6 thru 10 — 10:30 to 11:30 Children 11 thru 13 — 11:30 to 12:30 Teens and Adults — 1:30 to 2:30 Adult with Child — 2:30 to 3:30 (adults and children will have separate projects) Students are advised to dress appropriately since clay can stain light colored clothing. Classes are limited to 8 people per class.
Pit Firing on the Beach Free to Barry Lakes Members - Sign up with the Life Guards Although no longer the principle means to fire clay, the ancient technique of pit firing is still used today for the decorative property it gives to ceramic pieces. Barry Lakes residents are invited to explore the art of making pinch pots and the thrill for pit firing them. Tuesday, August 10 at 10:30 to 11:30 — come to the beach house to make a ceramic piece using the universal pinch pot technique Tuesday, August 24 at 7:00 to 8:00 — watch the pieces get baked in a pit fire on the beach (rain date August 25; a second rain date is August 26)

Water Carnival Water Carnival date has been changed: New date is August 2nd from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Rain date will remain Thursday, August 5th from 12:00— 3:00 p.m. Games, crafts, hot dogs loads of fun.
September
Labor Day Family picnic September 5, Sunday from 12:00p.m. - 6:00p.m. rain or shine. Food, live music, games, Chili cook off - Pie contest, etc... Must R.S.V.P. by August 31
